Trimlight vs. Govee

Trimlight does not consider Govee an alternative to Trimlight because we do not deem their product to be a truly permanent, year round lighting solution. As the pioneers in permanent, year round lighting, Trimlight defines permanent lighting solutions as professionally installed in a channel that secures the lights in place, protects the wires from sun damage & adverse weather conditions and is hidden during the day. Govee permanent lights are not professionally installed and is a DIY product installed with glue and clips. Govee is not protected with a channel, the wires are exposed to weather elements year round and they are not hidden during the day. Govee has a nice product, but their system is more comparable to temporary lighting solutions that are attached to homes with clips or other methods.

Trimlight vs. Govee: Key Differences Explained

Lifetime Product Warranty

  • Trimlight provides a lifetime product warranty, and their dealers offer different labor warranties with at least a 1-year minimum for all Trimlight purchases.

  • Govee advertises a three-year limited warranty from the date of purchase for Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 but we're unable to find information on what the 3-year limited warranty entails. We can only find information about a 12 month warranty on strip lights and bulbs.

Light Usage vs. Warranty Coverage

  • Trimlight offers a lifetime product warranty on up to 50,000 hours of light usage.

  • Govee provides a 12-month product warranty on their strip lights and bulbs and promotes their lights as offering 50,000 hours of use.

Note: If a customer purchases Govee permanent lights and operates them for 8 hours each night over a span of 12 months, they receive coverage for 2,920 hours of light usage, after which the warranty ends. Conversely, a Trimlight client using their lights under the same conditions is covered for 2,920 hours, plus an extra 47,080 hours beyond what Govee offers, equating to an additional 16 years and 1 month of coverage for Trimlight users.

Installation Differences

  • Trimlight is professionally installed by authorized dealers under the soffit of homes and lights are protected with a channel.

  • Govee is a DIY option that is not professionally installed. Govee permanent outdoor lights are attached to your home with glue and 4 screw clips to each string light.

Wire Visibility

  • Since Trimlight installs their lights within a color-matched channel to your home, clients don't see any wires; instead, the wires are neatly tucked inside the channel.

  • Govee clients install their lights without a channel and either black or white wire is visible on the home.

Spacing Options

  • Trimlight provides three bulb spacing choices: 6", 9", and 12". Each option creates a distinct appearance for your home, with 9" being the most favored and 12" mimicking classic holiday lighting.

  • Govee has a spacing option of 12" and 16" depending on the outdoor lights you're looking at.

Look From Street

  • Trimlight installs their lights in a weather-resistant channel designed to resemble a 2-stage fascia, providing an impressive appearance during the day with bulbs that are hardly noticeable.

  • Govee does not include a channel, resulting in a visible accessory appearance with exposed wires and lenses, much like other temporary lighting options on the market.

Bulb Options

  • At Trimlight, we understand that every client has unique preferences. Therefore, we offer a wide range of bulb options, such as classic, 3L, and commercially designed bulbs, ensuring there is a perfect choice for every need.

  • Govee offers a bead lens option in either black or white casing and has a 1 LED option. On their website they refer to it as a "3-in-1 LED Bead" which doesn't mean 3 LEDs, it means it's RGB with one LED included.

Note: Technically speaking, when referring to LED technology, a configuration of 3 LEDs could be described as a 9-in-1 LED bulb. This is because each LED can emit three primary colors—red, green, and blue—allowing for a wide spectrum of color combinations.

Govee offers various types of outdoor permanent lights, such as the Pro and 2 models, and we recommend researching the LEDs they offer. However, be aware that a "3-in-1 LED bead" does not imply that it contains three separate LEDs, rather only 1 LED is included.

Wall Splash Difference

  • Trimlight's unique bulb design provides a bright & natural wall splash that beautifully accents the home's exterior features while still providing that traditional holiday lighting look on the home.

  • Govee lens provides a triangular, scalloped wall splash on the home.

Channel Color Options

  • Trimlight offers over 50 channel color options and can custom color match channel if needed.

  • Govee does not include a channel with their lights, leaving the lenses exposed to weather conditions throughout the year and visible during the day.

Colors Available

  • With Trimlight, you can discover an impressive array of over 16 million mesmerizing colors that effortlessly integrate into any pattern design. Each bulb is individually controllable via Trimlight Edge and is RGB.

  • Govee can provide 16 million colors within their app.

Efficiency

  • Trimlight comes in a 12 volt system.

  • Govee's outdoor lights operate on a 36-volt system, which is less efficient than Trimlight in managing heat dissipation.

Note: In LED lighting, managing heat effectively is essential for maintaining both longevity and optimal performance. The epoxy encapsulation of each bulb shields it from environmental factors, yet it necessitates efficient heat management. As the lights function, they produce heat, and a lower voltage system is optimal for heat control. By utilizing a lower voltage, each LED runs at a cooler temperature, which diminishes the overall heat produced. This approach not only boosts the safety of the lights but also extends their lifespan. Operating at a cooler temperature alleviates stress on internal components such as semiconductor junctions, ensuring the LEDs retain their brightness and color uniformity. Thus, choosing Trimlight's lower voltage lights is the best way to maximize durability and maintain a festive glow all year round.

Preset Patterns Available

  • Trimlight offers 180 preset patterns.

  • Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro offers 75 scene modes and Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 offers 100 scene modes.
