Do Trimlight LEDs fade in the sun?
Trimlight’s residential LEDs are designed to resist the fading, cloudiness, and discoloration that can occur with some exterior LED products after years of sun exposure. Unlike lighting products that place a separate lens or covering over the LED, Trimlight’s residential system allows the LED diode to shine directly through the channel opening.
Exterior lighting spends years exposed to sunlight, weather, and changing temperatures, so UV protection is an important part of a permanent lighting system. Some LED products use lenses that can become cloudy, faded, or discolored after prolonged exposure to the sun. According to Trimlight, its residential LEDs avoid this issue by using a design without an exterior lens covering the diode.
The position of the lights provides another layer of protection. Trimlight residential LEDs are installed facing downward beneath the channel, which reduces the amount of direct sunlight reaching the diode throughout the day. The patented channel also protects the system’s wiring and electrical components from UV exposure while keeping those components concealed along the roofline.
This design serves two purposes. During the day, the channel helps the permanent lighting system blend into the architecture of the home. At night, the LEDs remain exposed enough to produce the bright, colorful lighting the system is designed for.
Trimlight’s channel materials are also designed for long-term outdoor installation and protection from changing weather conditions. The channel surrounds and shields important system components from sun, wind, ice, and other environmental exposure.
While any outdoor electrical system is exposed to environmental wear over time, Trimlight specifically designs its residential LEDs and channel system to reduce the UV-related fading and discoloration associated with many lensed exterior LEDs.
